'Raise a glass to our dear pal' - Imelda May and Ryan Tubridy honour Terry Wogan

The pair attended the memorial service for the late broadcaster at Westminster Abbey and afterwards Imelda May shared a photo of the two raising a glass to honour Limerick-born Wogan

"Mr Ryan Tubridy and I raise a glass to our dear pal Terry Wogan after a wonderful service in Westminster. That's what Terry did so well... made every one of us feel like a best pal," she wrote on Facebook.

They were close friends and Tubridy even filled in for the legendary radio star on his BBC Radio 2 slot last November when he fell ill.

He was in the business for more than six decades but died aged 77 after a short battle with cancer.

As welll as May and Tubridy, some of the biggest names in broadcasting turned out for his memorial serice on Wednesday, A Service Of Thanksgiving For The Life And Work Of Sir Terry.

They included Dermot O’Leary, Claudia Winkleman, Fearne Cotton, Tess Daly, Joanna Lumley, Gloria Hunniford, Jimmy Carr, Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langsford, Matt Baker, and Jo Whiley. Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy was also there.

Strictly Come Dancing co-host Winkleman said afterwards: “I thought the service was beautiful.”

The event included tributes from Terry’s children and a poem especially co-written for the occasion by actress Lumley, in which she compared Terry’s voice to “an aural, newly ripened peach”.
