Rob Lowe joins the cast of CBS's 'Code Black.'

Adam Rodriguez (CSI: Miami) joins the show as it prepares for the exit of Thomas Gibson, who was fired this summer after an on-set altercation. Free free to send congratulations to Rodriguez and condolences to Gibson —or vice versa, depending on how you feel about the series.

Black-ish
ABC, 9:30 ET/PT

Let’s get the bad news over with first: This Emmy-nominated comedy kicked off its season with what may have been its worst episode ever, a desultory trip to a Disney-owned theme park that was so awful, you might almost think the writers purposely tanked the outing to express their displeasure at having to produce a half-hour commercial for their corporate bosses. But that’s the past, and this episode sounds like the kind of story Black-ish does best: a serio-comic debate over the existence of God built around Zoey’s crisis of faith. What's more, an already strong cast is getting a great new addition in Hamilton's incredibly charismatic Tony-winner Daveed Diggs, who begins a recurring role as Bow’s brother Johan.

Code Black
CBS, 10 ET/PT

Elsewhere on the good news/bad news front, Rob Lowe is back, which is very good news for anyone who remembers how terrific he was last season on The Grinder. Unfortunately, he’s not on The Grinder, which was cancelled. He’s joining Code Black, which, shockingly enough, wasn't.
