Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who enjoys a huge fan following in Kerala has been appointed as the goodwill ambassador of Mrithasanjeevani programme in the state. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who met the Pulimurugan actor announced it via his official Facebook page on Tuesday, September 27.

"Sri. Mohanlal has agreed to be the honorary Goodwill Ambassador of the Mrithasanjeevani programme. Appreciate his kind gesture. Organ donation programme of the state is being improved so as to make it a model for the rest of the world, through Mrithasanjeevani. Government will provide all the necessary financial and moral support in this effort," the CM posted on the Facebook page.

Calling organ transplantation as society's responsibility and as one of the biggest achievements in medical science, the CM has also introduced Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS), a registry that maintains details on the patients who are in need of organ transplantations and of people willing to donate their organs after death.

"KNOS is also engaged in creating awareness on organ donation, because of which around 10,000 people have expressed their interest in organ donation and enrolled themselves in the registry. The Government is hoping to develop KNOS into an organisation that observes and controls the activities concerning organ donation in the state.

"KNOS will also develop a code of conduct and set of procedures that can facilitate the process of organ donation. KNOS is working towards signing an MoU with air service providers to make organ sharing to and from Kerala hassle-free as well [sic]," Pinarayi added in the Facebook post.
