2017 Yamaha R15 v3.0 Could Get Bigger Piston
Yamaha could tweak R15 v3.0 engine with a slightly bigger diameter piston. This will be one of the several tweaks Yamaha engineers will carry out on the new model.
According to Iwanbanaran, the new generation R15 will have its bore increased to 57.4mm. The current model, v2.0 uses a piston of bore 57mm and stroke 58.7mm.
Yamaha engineers are doing some minor tweaks to the current R15 package. They are not opting to do some revolutionary changes as it may lead to altering the character of the motorcycle.
We can expect the v3.0 to develop slightly more power than v2.0. The second generation motorcycle produces 16.76bhp and 15Nm of torque. The 150cc engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Mr Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India, said that the new model will become better in its next iteration and in terms of performance and safety, v3.0 will be a step up from v2.0.
Yamaha will launch R15 v3.0 in mid-2017 and, it will also get ABS and CBS as standard. This is because of the new safety regulations on motorcycles above 125cc in India.
