PIO lawyer killed after injuring 9 in shooting spree at Houston mall

HOUSTON: Houston police was struggling on Tuesday to find the motive behind the mass shooting by an Indian origin lawyer who fired indiscriminately and injured nine people at a strip mall on Monday before being shot dead.
Nathan DeSai, the 46-year-old shooter, was wearing a vintage military uniform and had Nazi emblems on him. The incident was reported in TOI on Tuesday , but DeSai's identity had not been revealed at that time.
He used a .45-calibre handgun for the assault and cops later found 2,600 rounds of ammunition and a Thompson submachine gun in his car, a black Porsche parked near where he was killed. DeSai lived in a condominium complex near the shooting scene at Weslayan and Law streets.

A search of his home turned up additional weapons and several pieces of military regalia and other items going back to the Civil War. Nathan DeSai bought the handgun in 2011.

The Thompson submachine gun was purchased in 2009, police said.

Acting Houston police chief Martha Montalvo said the police was working with FBI to crack the case.

Photographs of DeSai's body show him wearing military-style spats strapped over his boots. He was lying face up with his dark shirt over his face. Police said Nazi emblems were found in his clothing."We did find some old Nazi emblems about some of his personal effects, and there were some in where he lived," Houston police captain Dwayne Ready said."To what extent that played a part... I don't know, because there were also some historic or vintage military stuff in the apartment, going back to the Civil War."

According to media, DeSai's father said his son was upset over the failure of his law firm and the business had to be closed due to a lack of clients. He confirmed his son owned multiple guns and said he had a licence to carry arms. Meanwhile, police said the black Porsche found in the shopping centre parking lot was registered in DeSai's name.
