Pune: The simple act of talking on his smartphone while walking down a street in
Kalyaninagar turned out to be a costly affair for a 21-year-old youth.
Two men on a motorbike snatched
Yash Mohit Khatankar's phone while he was on a call with his father outside the joggers park at Kalyaninagar on Sunday around 5pm.
Khatankar, who works as a hotel manager in
Balewadi registered a complaint with the
Yerawada police station on Monday around 3.10 pm after an inordinate delay of 22 hours.
Khatankar told TOI on Tuesday, "While taking a walk, I took out my phone to make a call to my father. I was on the call while crossing the busy road when two men riding on a motorbike came from behind and the pillion rider snatched my phone and sped away in the direction of the joggers park."
"It all happened in a fraction of a second. The robbers were riding on a black or dark red motorbike. The rider was sporting a helmet. I cannot give description of the pillion rider because he was holding a bag on his back. I did not manage to jot down the vehicle's license plate number," he stated.
"The robbers were young and I suspect they were students. After the incident I rushed home and made a phone call to my father and narrated the incident to him. After he returned from Mumbai, we took the call to register a first information report against the robbers ," he added.
Sub inspector
Ishwar Jagdale from the Yerawada police station said, "We have started analysing CCTVs in Kalyaninagar area to ascertain the identity of the suspects."
