Panjab University senate polls: Results of final phase declared

Results of the eight ordinary fellows each from the constituency of heads of affiliated arts college and professors, associate professors and assistant professors of affiliated arts college were announced on Tuesday.

CHANDIGARH: Results of the eight ordinary fellows each from the constituency of heads of affiliated arts college and professors, associate professors and assistant professors of affiliated arts college were announced on Tuesday. While six sitting Panjab University (PU) senators have made to the senate for the constituency of heads of affiliated arts college, two sitting senators got elected for the constituency of professors, associate professors and assistant professors of affiliated arts college.

However, some known senators like B C Josan, principal of DAV College, Sector 10, and Jagwant Singh from GGDSD College could not make it to the senate.
The final phase of the PU senate elections was held on Sunday. This year, 35,931voters were enrolled but only 20% polling was recorded. As many as 48 candidates were in fray for the 15 seats under the constituency of registered graduates.
The entire process of election was live streamed and live updates from all centres was available. On August 31, first phase of the elections was held and the university group won four out of the six seats. The Ashok Goyal group won the other two seats in sciences and languages. This year, 270 booths had been set up for the graduate constituency senate elections.
In the senate election held for the six ordinary fellows of various faculties on August 31, the university group had won four out of the six seats. The Ashok Goyal group had won two seats in sciences and languages, where the group has maintained its monopoly for last 20 years. Ashok Goyal from the Ashok Goyal group and Prof Ronki Ram from the university group had already won unopposed in the faculty of medical sciences and faculty of arts, respectively.
