PANAJI: Goa Cricket Association (GCA) president Chetan Dessai, an accused in the alleged GCA funds misappropriation case, informed the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of the Goa police on Tuesday that on medical grounds his wife and daughter will be unable to appear before the cell on Tuesday in connection with the withdrawal of 2.4 crore from a cooperative society immediately after Dessai was released from custody.

EOC has now decided to issue fresh summons to Dessai's wife and daughter to appear before it next week, superintendent of police, EOC, Priyanka Kashyap, told TOI.
On June 2, EOC had registered an FIR against Dessai, GCA secretary Vinod Phadke, and GCA treasurer Akbar Mulla for allegedly misappropriating the association's funds. The trio was subsequently arrested on June 15 and later released on conditional bail.
Investigations had revealed that around 2.4 crore was being held at VPK Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd in the name of Dessai's family members. The same sum was withdrawn soon after Dessai's release.
The trio has been accused of hatching a criminal conspiracy by impersonating and posing as president, secretary and treasurer of GCA. They had also forged documents, including the GCA resolution, and submitted the same to a bank for opening an account in the association's name, the FIR also stated.
Police said after opening the account, the accused misappropriated 2.87 crore from the television subsidy GCA receives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
