The J&K Police Tuesday blamed stone pelting by some youths in Parimpora for the death of a girl and injuries to her sister when the duo were hit by a vehicle that was moving backwards after the group of protesters started stopping vehicles early in the morning.
Police identified the girls as Fozia and Nadia of Gulbagh. They were hit by a Scorpio near Rogan Gali Parimpora, and rushed to the hospital, where Fozia (17) succumbed to injuries.
Parimpora SHO Nisar Ahmad Bakshi told The Indian Express that the driver of the Scorpio hit the girls while moving his vehicle backwards as it was being stoned by the miscreants.
“At that time there was no deployment in the area and some youths had started stopping private vehicles for defying the separatists’ call. Both the girls were critically injured. The older sister, Fozia, succumbed later.’’
Bakshi said that witnesses told the police about what had happened at the spot. “We have registered a case and started investigation…Since the injured girl is witness to this incident, so she will be able to divulge more details about the incident,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the driver and the unidentified youths who were pelting stones at the vehicles.
“This incident took place around 6.30 am, the girls were out for a morning walk,’’ said Bakshi, adding that police deployment in the area was to begin from 8 am.
In another incident, police said that one Furqan Hamid of Zoonimar was injured when miscreants hurled stones at him while he was riding on a two-wheeler near Allie Masjid Eidgah, Safa Kadal. “He received an injury on head and has been admitted in SKIMS for treatment.
