Batala, September 27

Several local Congress leaders boycotted the ‘nukkad’ (corner) meetings addressed by Batala MLA Ashwani Sekhri here today. Prominent among them were the MLA’s brother, Inder Sekhri, PPCC general secretaries Amardeep Cheema and Ravinder Sharma, and Manjit Hanspal, vice-chairman, PCC OBC cell. All of them are party ticket aspirants.

Sekhri had addressed meetings yesterday in Qadian, from where Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa is a ticket applicant, but the latter kept away today. “I invited all of them, but they decided to boycott the meetings. The crowds today prove that I am still popular among the masses,” he added.
