Amaal Mallik: Dhoni's biopic is not a film with a regular soundtrack

Amaal Mallik, the youngest music composer in Bollywood, is a happy man. His first solo album M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has been making waves. Amaal says, 'Composing for the film has been a dream come true. I've made music for a few commercials featuring the cricketer, but I never thought I'd score the entire soundtrack of his biopic.'
The album comprising seven songs is a fine blend of rock and orchestral elements.What really makes it tick is that they even work as stand-alone songs. He explains, 'The album maintains a balance between commercial and the inspirational aspect ' even if one has not seen the movie, they would still be able to relate to the songs.'
Director Neeraj Pandey is all praises for the composer. He says, 'Amaal has contributed immensely to the film. We were initially open to having multiple composers but after we cracked the first song Besabriya, we changed our mind. The experience of making that song convinced us that we should stick to Amaal for the entire album. We managed to do this album in record time. Each song is integral to the movie. There is no lip-sync. The tracks take the story forward and reflect the mindset of Dhoni's character.'
Speaking of Neeraj, Amaal says, 'I've learnt a lot from him. I appreciate the creative freedom he gave me and lyricist Manoj Muntashir so that we could create music for this biopic. It's neither a regular film, nor a regular soundtrack. I'm glad I got the chance to do something like this so early on in my career.'
