On Monday, surveillance footage was released from Houston officials that showed two METRO officers beating an unarmed man with batons.

In the video, Officers J. Warren and D. Reynoso approached civilian Darrell Giles, who appeared to be asleep. The two officers engage in a conversation with Giles until Warren pulls out his baton and repeatedly strikes Giles.

As Giles was hit, he fell onto a bench and eventually fell to the ground. Even after Giles hit the ground, Warren continued to beat him. Near the end of the video, Reynoso appeared to step in and attempt to intervene. 

After the beating, Giles was checked by medics and taken in for processing. After stating that he was experiencing pain in his arm, he received additional medical attention.  

Houston officials held a press conference to address the incident. During the conference, they affirmed that Warren has resigned. After the incident, both officers were suspended. Reynoso has been cleared of any wrongdoing but he will have to undergo additional training.

Afterward, Giles was questioned about what he remembered from that traumatic evening.

"I thought he pulled a gun out," Giles said of the altercation last month. "He hit me so hard, he knocked me to the ground, so the first couple licks, he's just standing over me going boom, boom, boom, making some noise. I don't remember too much. All I remember is bracing myself and just taking the licks and I was holding my arm up.”

Giles was initially charged with trespassing; however, officials announced that all of his charges have been dropped.
