Acting on an anticipatory bail plea filed by Haryanavi folk singer Sapna Chaudhary, Justice Jitendra Chauhan of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the complainant to appear before the Bench on Wednesday.
Chaudhary was seeking bail in a case registered against her under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. She had approached the High Court after the dismissal of her bail plea by the Gurgaon district court earlier this month.
She was accused of insulting a particular caste through a song at a stage show. In July, Sapna was booked by the Gurgaon police. Sapna argued that the song she was booked for had been sung by several other artists. But the case was registered to unnecessarily harass her. Sapna contended she had even tendered an unconditional apology in the matter but was still being hounded.
