Outgoing mayor urges longer term to ensure work gets done
BENGALURU: Outgoing mayor BN Manjunath Reddy on Tuesday urged the state government to increase the term of the mayor from the current one year to two-and-a-half years or five years so that the person in-charge can take up developmental works and ensure their implementation.
“The Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act needs to be amended to enhance the term of the mayor,” he said a day before his successor will be elected.
Reddy said, “Tackling financial indiscipline, garbage crisis, illegal road-cutting, problems of pourakarmikas are some issues I was able to tackle to a good extent. I feel sad that many road widening works were not able to see the light of day.”
