RUDRAPUR: In a first,
CCTV cameras will be installed in
Sardar Bhagat Singh Post Graduate college, Rudrapur, during
college elections which will be held on October 1.
This comes after violence had broken out on the campus during elections last year. Last year, tension had erupted in
SBS college after two different student groups came face to face during elections and used weapons during the clash. Some students were later expelled from the college.
Assistant superintendent of police Manjunath told TOI that a meeting was held with college administration and all potential candidates in which the students were warned to stay away from any kind of violence.
Manjunath said the probable candidates are not allowed to put any hoardings or banners inside college premises. He said the local intelligence unit of police has been kept on high alert. Strict action will be taken against bribe givers and takers and against those threatening and intimidating electors.
Dr Jagdish Prasad, principal of SBS college said the election committee and the college administration will be following instructions given by police. September 27 is the nomination date and elections will be held on October 1 between 8 am to 1 pm. The results will be declared on the same day, he said.
