KOLKATA: The CID has arrested four persons for trying to sell high quality
heroin in the suburbs of Kolkata on Tuesday. According to CID officials, a joint raid with the
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) netted about 1.41kg of the banned substance worth Rs 20 lakh in the open market. The accused had brought the consignment from
Lalgola in Murshidabad. The accused have been identified as Khokon Naskar (24), Partha Pratim Jana (34), Jiten Chowdhury (22) and Baidyanath Mondal (26).
A case in this regard has been registered under the NDPS Act at the
Maheshtala police station.
According to DIG Bharat Lal Meena, the accused had come from
Joynagar to sell the heroin to some clients in Kolkata on the
Akra Road bordering Port. Tthere is an active supply line of drugs from Murshidabad to Kolkata via South 24 Parganas,” he said adding some other people too were under the police radar. The racket had customers in border towns such as Lalgola in Murshidabad and
Bongaon in North 24-Parganas, who smuggled them into
Bangladesh. Cops are checking if any of the four accused have a previous case of peddling with drugs registered against them. “We have asked NCB to track down their links in other states,” said a senior officer.
