Advanced Engineering 2016 returns with the largest free-to-attend conference of its kind, at Birmingham’s NEC on 2 & 3 November, with over 170 leading experts from the engineering world taking to the stage to discuss the most cutting-edge industry intel, trends, technologies and innovation.

Not only has the show gained the support of 80 leading industry bodies, associations and publications but visitors will have access to over 700 exhibiting companies. The show, which has become the hub for the high performance engineering sector, will also feature ‘four shows within a show’, spanning the entire engineering supply chain.

Aero Engineering Forum
Those working in the Aero Engineering industry will have access to an array of presentations from a series of major names, including ADS, Northwest Aerospace Alliance, Women's Engineering Society, Aerospace Technology Institute, BINDT, RAPRA and HVM Catapult.

Dr Andrew Mair, Chief Executive at Midlands Aerospace Alliance, will be looking at the National Aerospace Technology Programme’s (NATEP) new technologies within the aerospace supply chain. The Forum will also play host to a series of NATEP case studies and updates from Jeff Taylor, Programme Director at NATEP.

Andy Spence, General Manager – Aerospace at Industry Forum, will be providing an overview of how to gain a real manufacturing advantage through operational improvement programmes, while Phil Cooper, Product Verification Programme Leader at the National Physical Laboratory, will explore ‘Manufacturing Confidence through Product Verification’.

Plus, Tim Galsworthy, Head of Wing of the Future at Airbus, will also be taking to the stage to present ‘Designing the Wing of the Future’.

Automotive Engineering Forum
Visitors to the Automotive Engineering Forum will be able to see sessions from a number of leading organisations including Jaguar Land Rover, Magna International, SMMT and Motorsport Industry Association, who will cover everything from Big Data and the connected car, through to reducing noise and human robot interaction.

Paul Butler, CEO at North East Automotive Alliance, will discuss how it is supporting the sustainable economic growth of the North East Automotive sector. Dr Ianto Guy, Head of Off Road Vehicle Design at Harper Adams University, will be presenting ‘Developing Smart Driveline Solutions to Optimise Power Delivery Efficiency in 4x4 Tractors’.

Dr Lina Huertas, Technology Manager - Intelligent Automation & Informatics at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, will explore ‘Driving the 4th Industrial Revolution Through Impact Oriented Innovation’. While Ashish Naik, Automotive Business Development Manager at National Instruments UK & Ireland, will use the show to discuss ‘Embracing the Connected Car with NI's Platform Based Approach’.

Composites Engineering Forum
For those interested in the ever-changing world of advanced materials, the Composites Engineering Forum will highlight the new breakthroughs in composite materials, the latest innovations, the most pioneering research and all things IIoT.

The University of Liverpool Velocipede Team will be presenting ARION2, the aerodynamic recumbent bike, which helped the team break the men’s and women’s British Land Speed Record for a human-powered vehicle. The bike was built and designed as part of a two-year Engineering degree project and features several technological improvements from its predecessor ARION1. This includes updated aerodynamics, reduced weight, changes to the steering mechanisms and transmission, and a move to front-wheel drive.

Knowledge Transfer Network will consider R&D funding opportunities for Composites. While, 3M will explore ‘Adhesive Bonding: Innovations in Advanced Engineering Design and Assembly Solutions’.

Performance Metals Engineering Forum
Performance Metals Engineering is one of the fastest-growing areas of Advanced Engineering UK. Reflecting this, its Forum boasts some major names, including ALFED and the European Powder Metallurgy Association. Dave MacLellan, Executive Secretary at The Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU), will discuss ‘Better by laser: Saving weight, money and time with lasers in manufacturing’, while Ian Oliver, Marketing & Communications Manager, and Jan Lukaszewski, Technical Manager at Aluminium Federation (ALFED), will consider ‘Engineering with Aluminium’.

Plus, Dr Nikolay Biba, Technical Manager at MICAS Simulations, will consider the roles of simulation and virtuajerel design in the manufacturing of high performance metal parts.
