Backstage at Salvatore Ferragamo Spring 2017

The brand's revamped Rainbow shoes inspired its show's makeup look.

“Do you know the vintage Ferragamo shoes?” asked Thomas de Kluyver, the makeup artist working with MAC Cosmetics, who was referring to the rainbow platform models that the Florence-based house had updated for the Salvatore Ferragamo show.

That footwear served as inspiration for his color cosmetics look. He painted a stripe “with the same shape as the vintage shoes” on to models’ eyelids using orange pencil and gloss.

Hair for the show was slicked back and hung loose. Masterminding the look was Anthony Nader, who called it “very masculine,” sporty and boyish.

“My source of inspiration is the Nineties supermodels,” said Nader, who applied gel on to tresses with a fine-tooth comb, giving a wet, almost plastic sheen.

Paola and Antonio Sacripante, meanwhile, lacquered models’ fingernails and toenails with one coat of Morgan Taylor 51004 Go Ahead and Grow base and two layers of 51000 Stick With It top coat for an extra shine effect and futuristic look.
