NEW DELHI: Former spin great Bishan Singh Bedi heaped praise on left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja for his all-round show in the Kanpur Test against New Zealand. He also complimented Jadeja's athleticism on the field, but couldn't digest the fact that a spinner bowled so many no-balls. India bowled three no-balls in the game, all coming from Jadeja.
"I am very happy with the way Jadeja bowled and batted in the Test match.
He is supremely fit, but needs to grow as a spinner with time. I am not saying that he is not good. He can improve a lot more.
He still bowls no-balls, which is completely unacceptable from a spinner. His back leg should be behind the back crease during the delivery. He also needs to make some technical adjustments to add more variety to his bowling," Bedi told TOI on Monday after India registered a 197-run win over New Zealand in Kanpur.
"The pitches are also helping the Indian spinners, but I don't want to take the credit away from the Indian spinners. Both Jadeja and Ashwin were exceptional in the Kanpur Test and would continue to do well at home. But I would like to see them doing well in countries like South Africa. Doing well there would be the ultimate challenge," Bedi, who is the only India captain not to be invited for the just concluded 500th Test in Kanpur, added.
He also predicted a series win for India against the touring New Zealand. "I am not going to get into what kind of track should be prepared for Tests at home. All I can say is that India are going to win more Tests this time. This team has a balanced batting and bowling line-up," Bedi said.
