BANKA: P olice on Monday seized 240 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from an SUV near Bangaon village under Rajoun police station and arrested two smugglers who had allegedly brought the consignment from Jharkhand.
In a separate raid, the excise sleuths arrested seven alleged drunkards near Bhaljor check post under Bounsi block in Banka district on Sunday night.
Three liquor bottles were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons who have been identified as Ashok Singh, Binod Kapri, Nalinikant Chowdhary, Bhudev Singh, Pyarelal, Jarmani Tanti and Jivalal Singh.
Sources said the excise department has intensified raids in village haats which serve as a safe haven for liquor smugglers. Sale and consumption of country liquor made from seeds and flower of mahua trees is rampant in rural areas of the district.
SHO of Rajoun police station Ashish Kumar said 240 bottles of IMFL were seized from the SUV bearing registration number BR-11X-3380 late on Sunday night. Two persons - Subhash Kumar Mandal and Tinku Yadav - were arrested on the charge of carrying the liquor to Araria.
Banka excise superintendent Ashraf Jamal said similar raids would continue in the district to ensure implementation of total prohibition. TNN
