Adi Godrej, Chairman, Godrej Group was honoured at the 10th Annual Clinton Global Citizen Awards during a special ceremony at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting in New York City, on September 19, 2016, for his leadership in transforming the intersection of business and philanthropy and making the Godrej Group a global example of what can be achieved through inclusive, sustainable business strategies. Established in 2007, the Clinton Global Citizen Awards embodies President Bill Clinton's call to action by honouring outstanding individuals who exemplify global citizenship through their vision and leadership. Expressing his gratitude on receiving this honour, Adi Godrej, said:

'It is indeed a great honour to receive this prestigious award. For us at the Godrej Group, it has always been most important that besides our strong financial performance and innovative, muchloved products, we remain a good company. This has held us in very good stead for nearly 120 years now. We have always actively championed social responsibility and are deeply committed to driving the social progress of our communities. In fact, 24 per cent of our holding company is in a trust that invests in the environment, health and education.

Many global companies, including ours, have adopted a 'shared value' approach to business growth and innovation. The idea is to link business success with social progress - to find ways to create business value that also create social value. So, through our Good & Green strategy, we are committed to creating a more employable workforce, building a Greener India and innovating for good and green products.'

Additional honourees include Jon Bon Jovi for the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which focuses on the issues of affordable housing and hunger in the U.S. through community development initiatives; President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia for his commitment to establish peace in Colombia following a 50 year civil war; and Dr. Hawa Abdi for her work to provide refuge, quality healthcare, education and entrepreneurship opportunities that are open to all Somalis.
