Racial Mixing: Blasians and Binary Paradigms
Join us for a discussion with Professor Myra Washington about the fluidity of racial identities and the limitations of binary racial paradigms. Blasians (Black & Asian mixed race people) belong to more than one community and have multiple histories and experiences. What are the processes that give meaning to Blasian identity? How do Blasians challenge and destabilize current racial discourses, creating spaces for themselves and spoiling narratives that frame multiracial people?
This discussion will be moderated by Layla Brown, Ph.D., a recent graduate of Duke University's doctoral program in Cultural Anthropology.
