CHANDIGARH: A teacher of a government school at a village in Rohtak district has been booked for allegedly making advances towards girl students on the pretext of greeting them.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when parents of girl students staged an agitation against the teacher outside the school. But the teacher did not come to the school. Kalanaur SHO Jitender Singh said police parties were conducting raids to nab the accused.

According to information, the incident occurred last week when a girl student of Class IX had gone to the teacher to seek his blessings on her birthday. The teacher allegedly made indecent gestures. As the girl objected, the accused also threatened her with dire consequences. The girl revealed the incident to her mother who spoke to village elders. Meanwhile, more girls came forward accusing the teacher of the lewd behaviour.
Police said the parents of aggrieved girls and villagers reached the school premises on Monday and blocked the main gate seeking action against the teacher. Meanwhile, the block education officer (BEO) and Kalanaur SHO reached the spot. The villagers allowed the school to function after the SHO took the written complaint from parents of the aggrieved girls.
The teacher has been booked for molestation, threatening and under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"We have recorded the statement and examined the spot where the alleged incident took place. Further investigations are in progress," said SHO Jitender.
