Daughters forced to dismantle roof for wood for mother’s funeral pyre

BHUBANESWAR: In Kalahandi district of Odisha, which was recently in the news when a tribal man was forced to carry his dead wife 12 kilometres on his shoulders after his request for an ambulance was denied, another incident that took place wherein, four daughters dismantle wooden roof of their house to make funeral pyre for mother.

According to the report, 75-year-old woman, Kanak Satpathy, died after being ill for a long time. The poor family had no money to perform Kanak’s last rituals. When nobody come forward to lend a helping hand, four daughters were forced to carry their dead mother onto their head to the cremation ground in the Dokripada village of the district.
