BHOPAL: Nine people, including six policemen, were booked on charges of attempt to murder, rioting and robbery in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh after a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader was thrashed by them over a complaint of “objectionable“ posts made by him against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MP Asaduddin Owaisi on social media.
The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by RSS leader Suresh Yadav, who was allegedly dragged out of his house and thrashed by the policemen.
Yadav was admitted to a local hospital and then referred to Jabalpur for further treatment.
It started after a complaint was filed at Balaghat's Baihar police station by some local residents alleging that Yadav posted objectionable comments against Owaisi on WhatsApp.Yadav is the district pracharak of the RSS. Baihar police station Town Inspector (TI) Ziaul Haq swung into action immediately after receiving the complaint and informed his supe riors, sources said. Subsequently, ASP Rajesh Sharma, Haq, sub-inspector Anil Ajmeria, ASI Suresh Vijywar, constable Uikey and half-a-dozen other policemen reached the RSS office.
They allegedly dragged Yadav out and thrashed him on way to the police station. “In a bid to save himself, Yadav ran into a medical shop. But the policemen chased him, dragged him out and started beating him again. He was taken to the police station and thrashed again,“ a RSS worker alleged.
As RSS activists came to know about the incident, they gathered at Baihar police station and staged a protest. A bandh call was given in Baihar on Monday and several demonstrations held.
Subsequently, a case of attempt to murder was registered against additional SP Rajesh Sharma, SI Anil Ajmeria and over half-a-dozen policemen. Inspector Ziaul Haq was removed from Baihar police station immediately after registration of the case. RSS workers have been demanding arrest of all the police officials named in the FIR. “The situation is under control now. I will supervise investigations into the case,“ said D C Sagar, IG Balaghat.
