ICU rape: Dengue patient discharged from hospital
AHMEDABAD: The 22-year-old nursing student suffering from dengue, who had complained of being raped by a doctor and a ward boy in the ICU of Apollo hospital, Bhat, was discharged on Monday after remaining hospitalized for over a month.
Sources in the hospital said that the girl, who was admitted in the hospital on August 22, was discharged on Monday evening as she has recovered from the illness.
However, hospital authorities did not divulge any details about her discharge.
Police are still waiting for forensic reports in the case to substantiate the involvement of accused persons. Sources in Adalaj police station said that DNA reports about the incident will take at least another week.
The girl in her complaint to police had stated that one Dr Rajesh Chauhan and a ward boy, Chandrakant Makwana, had raped her on September 3 and 4. Both the accused were arrested earlier this month and booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 for rape.
The victim has alleged that she was sedated before being raped so she could not fight back. However, the hospital authorities have kept maintaining that the incident was unimaginable in the ICU and the offence could not be proved until medical examination reports come in.
"ICU patients are continuously monitored and in this case no elevation of any indicators including cardiac indicators was recorded or were synchronous with the episode described. It is unimaginable that an incident as alleged could happen in such an environment," the hospital authority had earlier claimed in a statement.
