KOZHIKODE: The mobile Aadhaar enrolment unit of the district administration started functioning in the district on Monday.
District collector N Prasanth inaugurated the unit by collecting the fingerprint of an inmate of an old age home at Vellimadukunnu.
The unit was launched aiming to speed up the Aadhaar enrolment of all bedridden patients and disabled persons to enrol 100% of the population for Aadhaar.

Over 9,000 bedridden patients in the district are expected to benefit from the service. The team will visit houses of bedridden patients and complete enrolment procedures at the earliest. The Aadhaar enrolment process will be monitored by assistant collector K Imbashekhar. The district administration will operate the mobile unit with the help of Aasha workers, Akshaya units, pain and palliative care centres and others. Every local self-government body has a list of patients and this will be used for enrolling the beneficiaries.
The units are expected to benefit those patients for whom it is difficult to visit Akshaya centres for Aadhaar enrolment procedures.
Aadhaar number has been made mandatory for many benefits schemes of the Centre.
The vehicle will visit various panchayats, municipalities and corporation wards after prior information.
