Cleanliness drive at Rishikesh village

A cleanliness drive was started from Alavalpur village under the aegis of the Parmarth Niketan ashram on the occasion of World River Day here yesterday.
Volunteers of the ashram, along with village representatives and school students, held an awareness march and apprised the villagers of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
Swami Chidanand Muni Maharaj, spiritual ideologue of the Parmarth Niketan ashram, said on the parameters of cleanliness and hygiene, a majority of villages lagged behind, leading to spread of many diseases and ailments.
The Parmarth Niketan was creating mass cleanliness awareness in rural areas and was also linked to Ganga cleaning, he said.
Social activist and literati Satish Shastri, who coordinated the event, assured the ashram of full cooperation to ensure the village attains high cleanliness and hygiene standards.
About 400 herbal plants were also distributed to the villagers with an aim to develop it as a herbal village.
