Amritsar, September 26

Sri Guru Harkrishan International School observed the 300th Martyrdom Day of Sikh General Baba Banda Singh Bahadur by organising a light and sound play, written and directed by TP Singh (UK), here yesterday.

Tarlochan Singh, ex-Rajya Sabha MP, was the chief guest and Suresh Mahajan, chairman, Improvement Trust, was the guest of honour on the occasion. Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) president Charanjit Singh Chadha was also present on the occasion.

The programme began with the school ‘shabad’ followed by the welcome address by resident president Nirmal Singh.

Suresh Mahajan appreciated efforts of the Chief Khalsa Diwan to express the statesmanship and personality of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur through the play.

Addressing the gathering, Tarlochan Singh said there was a need to educate people about the rich history and tradition of Punjab, including its leaders like Banda Singh Bahadur.

Nirmal Singh said, “Banda Singh Bahadur fought many battles against cruel rule of the then autocratic rulers. He protected the honour and tradition of the Sikh religion. All of us must learn from the life of such a great man.” — TNS
