Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida inspected sites to shift the various offices on rent in municipal building for the upcoming repair and renovation work of the heritage municipal building in November.
While speaking to TOI, Almeida said that, " the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) owned buildings in front of Vasco raikway station could be an ideal place to shift the offices temporarily for six months.
We will be approaching MPT with the help of the CM's office."
Altogether 13 offices including, mamlatdar, deputy collector, civil supply, excise and others will shift.
Another site near Vasco railway station belonging to the church was seen but the inspection revealed that it itself needs some repair work. The council is also looking out to some private properties to shift temporarily.
The main hitch before the council is shifting the municipal schools as their term exams are approaching and the school staff has raised objection. Almeida added, "the building immediately needs to undergo repair and we cannot take risk with that. However we are trying best to check substitute premise. The renovation is estimated to cost Rs. eight crores”.
