BAKU, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- 69 workers have been evacuated from the oil platform of Azerbaijan's Guneshli field as a fire broke out at one of its wells, Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR said Monday.
The accident occurred during maintenance works on Monday, SOCAR said earlier in a statement.
No one was seriously injured in the incident, it says.
A fire broke out due to the release of gas from a well on Platform No.19 of the "28 May" Oil and Gas Extracting Department (OGED) on Sept. 26, SOCAR said.
Employees of the paramilitary blowout service are taking measures to stop the emission of gas, it said.
Azerbaijan, which borders Russia and Iran, is a major energy producer in the region.
Before the accident, Guneshli platform produced 920 tonnes of oil and 1.08 million cubic metres (38 million cubic feet) of gas per day. About 60 percent of the oil produced by SOCAR was transported through this platform.
