Uttar Pradesh: Gangraped by 3, minor hangs self

A minor gangrape victim committed suicide four hours after the assault in Ishanagar police station area in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday. The police arrested the three accused on Monday. They were later produced before a local court which sent them in judicial custody.  The incident took place when the 15-year-old girl’s father, a labourer, had gone with his wife to a doctor’s clinic, said Station Officer, Ishanagar police station, Shivanand Prasad said. The victim had gone to the fields around 11 am when three labourers — Sandeep, Sunder and Manoj — caught her and raped her. She told her elder sister about the incident, who had to go to the neighbourhood for some work. By the time her parents returned, the girl had hung herself with her scarf from the ceiling’s hook around 3 pm, Prasad said.
