A look at the top high school football team in the state entering Week 6.

These are teams regardless of conference.

No. 1 Phoenix Mountain Pointe Pride (5-0)

A few eyebrows raised on Friday when the Pride gave up 20 first-half points to Phoenix Pinnacle. The most anybody had scored in the first half against Mountain Pointe before that was six. But the offense was unstoppable in a 62-34 rout as Gary Bragg ran for 204 yards and Anthony Stephens 105.

No. 2 Scottsdale Saguaro Sabercats (6-0)

So far there hasn't been a challenge in 4A for the Cats, despite facing three teams that were ranked among the top five. Now comes Tempe Marcos de Niza in a Thursday night rematch of the Division II state championship game.

No. 3 Phoenix Brophy Prep Broncos (6-0)

Not quite as solid a No. 3 after escaping Mesa Mountain View 20-17, a week after Mountain View lost to Mountain Pointe 56-0.

No. 4 Goodyear Desert Edge Scorpions (5-0)

Had last week to rest up, which should only mean quarterback Tehran Thomas is ready to shift into overdrive to try to run the 5A table.

No. 5 Peoria Centennial Coyotes (5-1)

This 5A power gets a well-deserved week off after back-to-back impressive wins over Phoenix Pinnacle and Avondale Westview.

No. 6 Mesa Desert Ridge Jaguars (4-1)

Junior running back Tyrese Allen getting stronger every week, as the Jaguars hope to be at full throttle by mid-October when they play host to Mountain Pointe.

No. 7 Chandler Wolves (4-2)

Since the loss to Mountain Pointe, has hung 55 points on Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor and 59 on Glendale Mountain Ridge and it is only  getting healthier and stronger on both sides of the ball.

No. 8 Chandler Hamilton Huskies (5-1)

They got their groove back in a 21-14 win over Mesa Skyline, but they can't let up with a Friday 6A Conference showdown against Brophy Prep.

No. 9 Gilbert Williams Field Black Hawks (6-0)

This 5A team cracks through the Super 10 for the first time after an impressive 43-14 rout of previously unbeaten Gilbert Campo Verde, but Gilbert Mesquite and Queen Creek will loom large the final two weeks of the regular season.

No. 10 Skyline Coyotes (5-1)

They suffered their first regular-season loss in two years, but it might have been just the thing they needed to make them stronger in the 6A playoffs.
