City unit of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samithi (PAAS) has decided to throw its lot behind Patidar students irrespective of BJP-backed ABVP or the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), students wing of the Congress, in the ensuing general secretary elections of colleges, said Surat PAAS co-convenor Alpesh Katheriya.
The general secretary elections in Surat city colleges will be held in the first week of October.
Giving details about the future course of action, Katheriya said, “We want to intensify the agitation in the larger interest of students. So it is our duty to support the Patidar candidates who are contesting elections for the post of general secretary. We have not kept the political party into consideration. We will form different teams of Patidar youths who will look after the campaigning procedures. By doing this, we can reach out directly to the students groups of Patidar community in Surat city.”
