President Obama’s use of a pseudonym when emailing then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on her private email server was a security measure to protect his communications, the White House said Monday.
“There are some common-sense security measures that are put in place to protect the president’s email,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest. “The fact that it’s not easy to predict what the president’s email address is, is one of those measures.”
Documents released by the FBI last week showed that Mr. Obama used a pseudonym when sending or receiving emails through the private server system Mrs. Clinton used.
Mr. Earnest said all of Mr. Obama’s emails will be archived when he leaves office.
