Vodafone may have stolen a march with its 1+9 data offer. Here, Vodafone customers can consume 10 GB of data after paying for only 1 GB.

Not to be left behind, Airtel has come up with a special unlimited data offer for 90 days with a one time recharge of Rs 1,495 for its 4G users.

The customer beneficial moves may have been induced by Reliance Jio’s entry into the market with a disruptive offer of free voice and data usage till December 31, 2016.

Although, the Airtel offer preceded Vodafone’s, the latter offer has inserted a pre-condition of a new 4G handset that had not been on the Vodafone network in the last six months, to avail of their 1+9 data bundling. This offer from Vodafone offer is available for both prepaid and postpaid customers till December 31, 2016.

Meanwhile, state owned BSNL has come up with something for its 3G customers. It is providing unlimited 3G mobile data all over India for Rs 1,099 and has already doubled the data usage limit in some existing plans. BSNL is also planning to counter Jio by offering free voice on its network.

The incumbent players are desperately trying to retain their customers from the new offerings from Reliance Jio. Incidentally, all offers in the market are to end at the same time, viz December 31 this year.

One needs to wait and see how the market settles down after that threshold.
