Court directs arrangement of translator for Ameerul
Jisha murder accused Ameerul Islam before being produced before the magistrate.
Kochi: The Ernakulam principal district and sessions court on Monday directed the prosecution and counsel of the accused to arrange a translator to begin trial in the Jisha murder case. The translator is for Assam native Ameerul Islam (23), the lone accused chargesheeted in the case.
Hearing the case on Monday, principal district and sessions court judge N Anilkumar issued the direction to commence trial proceedings in the case at the earliest.The prosecution came up with a list of three persons who can be appointed as translator.
Manoranjan Ghosh, an officer with Border Security Force, Dr Praneetha and Dr A K Bindu, professors with the Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, are in the list of translators proposed by the prosecution, said the police.
The court had asked both prosecution and counsel of the accused to suggest translator for Ameerul in the case.Special public prosecutor N K Unnikrishnan said that only the prosecution came up with a list of potential translators for Ameerul.
“One of the three persons suggested by the prosecution will be appointed as the interpreter in the case. The person will have to cooperate with the court till the completion of trial in the case,” said Unnikrishnan. The court has scheduled preliminary hearing on chargesheet in the case on Friday.
