Fraser McKenzie: Edinburgh lock banned for two weeks for dangerous play

Edinburgh lock Fraser McKenzie has been handed a two-week ban after being found guilty of dangerous play during last week's defeat by Munster.

The 28-year-old was shown a yellow card in the 12th minute of the match in Limerick after charging into a ruck.

Munster's Jack O'Donoghue left the field on a stretcher after being knocked out.

And the Pro12 disciplinary panel decided that McKenzie had put his opponent's safety at risk.

He appeared before the panel in Cardiff on Wednesday and, while the former Scotland A second-row has avoided a more lengthy ban, he will now sit out next Saturday's Murrayfield meeting with Treviso.

McKenzie had already been left out of the team to face reigning champions Connacht on Friday by caretaker coach Duncan Hodge following his citing.

The Pro12's written explanation confirmed the punishment, saying: "Although the disciplinary committee deemed that the player had not acted deliberately, his actions were judged to be reckless.

"It was deemed that the player's act of foul play was a lower-end offence, which has a sanction entry point of two weeks.

"The player will be free to play from 10 October."
