Justice Rajeev Sharma takes oath in Nainital

The Uttarakhand High Court, currently facing a shortage of five judges, got some reprieve after Justice Rajeev Sharma, judge from Himachal Pradesh High Court, took oath in Nainital on Monday.“The arrival of Justice Rajeev Sharma will be a respite to the court as there were five vacancies. I hope his arrival will boost the disposal of important cases,” said Mohit Maulekhi, a practicing advocate of the high court.

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand High Court, currently facing a shortage of five judges, got some reprieve after Justice Rajeev Sharma, judge from Himachal Pradesh High Court, took oath in Nainital on Monday.
“The arrival of Justice Rajeev Sharma will be a respite to the court as there were five vacancies. I hope his arrival will boost the disposal of important cases,” said Mohit Maulekhi, a practicing advocate of the high court.
The oath ceremony which took place in the HC premises was presided by K M Joseph, the chief justice of the court.

The notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on September 15, 2016 said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Justice Rajeev Sharma, judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court and to direct him to assume charge on or before September 29, 2016.”

The number of working judges in the Nainital High Court will rise to seven, including chief Justice K M Joseph and five others.
Justice Sharma, was born on October 8, 1958 and obtained his LLB degree from Himachal University in 1982. He started working as an advocate in 1982 and was designated as a senior lawyer in 2002. He practiced constitutional law, administrative law, employment cases and environment law.
He was appointed as the additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in April, 2007 and was confirmed as a permanent judge in March, 2013.
