Miss Universe Great Britain meets rescued elephants in Mathura
AGRA: Miss Universe Great Britain 2016, Jaime Lee Faulkner, on Friday visited the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre run by Wildlife SOS in Mathura and interacted with the rescued elephants Chanchal, Bijli and Laxmi, among 17 others rescued and housed at the facility. Adding an overwhelming experience to her journey through India, Jaime Lee Faulkner who was on a four-day tour across India, visited the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Mathura to meet the majestic pachyderms, rescued by wildlife conservation NGO- Wildlife SOS from conditions of abuse and neglect in captivity, and interact with the Wildlife SOS staff to get an insight into their efforts in conserving wildlife and caring for the elephants.

The elephant rescue centre currently houses 20 elephants rescued from illegal captivity and circuses where they were ill-treated and subjected to cruelty. The British model had a wonderful experience at the facility, where she had the opportunity to feed the rescued pachyderms and interact and even hear some interesting stories about the elephants from their keepers (mahouts).
Describing her experience with the elephants, Jaime said, “This is the first time I’ve had such a close and personal experience with elephants. It was really overwhelming and emotional to be here and interact with these majestic creatures. Hearing the stories of these elephants and the trauma that they have gone through earlier in their life is heart-breaking, but I am grateful to Wildlife SOS for all the hard work they are doing to save these amazing and intelligent beings. I would love to come back to India again and volunteer with Wildlife SOS to spend some more time with these lovely elephants.”
Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS said, “Wildlife SOS is extremely happy to have Jaime Lee Faulkner visit our centre and for extending her support to our rescued and rehabilitated elephants. Each of our elephants have shocking stories of the circumstances from which they were rescued. Today, these majestic creatures are adjusting to a life of freedom and peace, in a place where they can spend their days happily, with frequent baths, a nutritious diet, and good veterinary care.”
