NAGPUR: The schools of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), doctors from the Coal India Retired Officers Welfare Association (CIROWA) have
joined hands with the Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) to provide health care services to the NMC school students.
OCHRI medical director Dr Anup Marar told TOI that though his hospital had been involved in activities for under-privileged children through
their ‘aglee peedhi’ project active support from the CIROWA would be of great help in helping the NMC schoolchildren.
“We experienced that
proper counselling and creating awareness among children about health issues brings lot of improvement in their health in particular and society in general. We are thankful to CIROWA doctors for their altruistic gesture,” he said.
CIROWA is an association of active retired doctors. CIROWA secretary Arun Hazare said that project was established by taking up a similar
endeavor earlier in Vivekanand Hindi Pathshala in Veer Sawarkar Nagar last year along with OCHRI. The association regularly did a follow up

and found a definite improvement in the health and overall personality of children from this school.
NMC education committee chairman Gopal Behare and then NMC assistant commissioner Nayana Gunde support the CIROWA-OCHRI joint initiative. Project coordinator Dr P C Gupta said that retired doctors from Coal India Ltd with the infrastructural and management support of OCHRI
will render their expert services free of cost. General and planned screening of children will be done through preventive health check-up camps organized in the NMC schools. Counselling if needed will be provided.
Issues related to bad habits like tobacco chewing and personal hygiene will also be addressed. Sanitary napkins vending machines will also be
installed in schools for the girls. Nodal Officer for CIROWA-OCHRI School health mission from OCHRI Dr Deepak Dongre has appealed to doctors retired from other organizations as well to join in the endeavour.
