Dev Anand was born on September 26, 1923, as Dharam Devdutt Pishorimal Anand to advocate Pishori Lal Anand in the state of Punjab in present day Pakistan. He was educated in Dalhousie and Lahore. He debuted in Hum Ek Hain in 1946 and slowly but surely went on to be the biggest star of the 1950s and ’60s in Hindi cinema (then not known as Bollywood). The actor enthralled us from the beginning of his career itself. A star whose talent knew no bounds and whose charm is unmatched till date. With his innocent smile and power packed acting he made the whole world go crazy. Yes, such was the aura of the superstar whose contemporaries were other great actors like Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. Dev Sa’ab, as he was fondly known, was married to actress Kalpana Karthik (aka Mona Singha) and had two children, but his love story with actress-singer Suraiya is what makes headlines even today.

The world lost this iconic star  on December 3, 2011. In his career spanning over more than six decades as actor and filmmaker, Dev Anand gave us some forgettable but many memorable film, such as Guide, Hum Dono, Jewel Thief, Johny Mera Naam, Teen Devian and many more. 1. Guide

When we try to recollect some of the best works of Dev Anand, the first film that will come to our minds is Guide. The struggle and pain that he showed us in the film made the character look very real and is undoubtedly his classiest work.  Dev Anand completely floored us by his character of Raju Guide, and established a different identity for himself with this film.

2. Jewel Thief

Jewel Thief is another fantastic film of Dev Anand. This crime thriller starring Dev Anand, Vyjayantimala, Ashok Kumar, Tanuja and Helen was a blockbuster hit and portrayed Dev Sahab in a very interesting and unique character. And this movie is even more amazing because it has given us some of the most iconic songs in the Indian cinema.

3. Paying Guest

Starring Dev Anand and Nutan in the lead, Paying Guest is another iconic film delivered by the evergreen star. And the highlight of this film was Dev Sahab’s sparkling chemistry with Nutan which was really adorable.

4. Johny Mera Naam

Johny Mera Naam is one more master piece given by the legendary man. Johny Mera Naam saw Dev Anand in a very distinctive character and is one of the most cherished characters of him. And who can forget his dialogue Johny Bure Kaam Karta Hai lekin Imaan ke saath.

5. Hare Rama Hare Krishna

When you have two fabulous actors like Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman in the same frame, you can expect nothing short of a magic, and this film is the proof of it. 6. Kala Pani

You will surely agree with us that Kala Pani is one spectacular work of Dev Anand. Dev Anand essayed his role with at most dedication and gave us a cult film like this. Dev Anand’s acting skills were much appreciated in this movie.

7. Hum Dono

This list is incomplete without this glorious movie of the ultimate superstar. Hum Dono saw Dev Anand in two different roles and was a marvelous work by the actor.
