Children don’t know parents were killed in crash during Disney vacation

Two young survivors of a Florida car crash have no idea that their parents were killed in the collision, a family friend said.

Sophia, 8, and her sister Hailey, 13, were visiting the Orlando area from Leadwood, Missouri, with their parents, Greg and Sarah Moyers, when their long-planned Disney World vacation took a tragic turn on Sunday.

The family was on their way to the beach when a car driven by Charles King, 43, of North Carolina, drifted into their lane on Interstate 4, causing the Moyers’ vehicle to veer off the road and hit a tree, police said. King was not injured in the wreck.

The children were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where Sophia is being treated for serious injuries and Hailey is being treated for critical injuries, according to Click Orlando.

“Their kids were their world,” heartbroken family friend Loni Burnside Eaton told the Orlando Sentinel.

“They were very involved and supportive parents and just wanted the best for them. They wanted the girls to experience Disney and the beach. I can’t believe this really happened.”

She said other relatives were on their way to Florida to tell the children that their parents died. The couple has two other children, Eaton told the paper.

Sarah Moyers worked as a manager at McDonald’s. Her husband owned a muffler shop.

Troopers are investigating the crash. Charges are pending, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
