Slight intensity earthquake jolts Rudraprayag district
DEHRADUN: An earthquake of slight intensity having magnitude of 3.7 on Richter Scale had hit the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
The tremor jolted the Rudraprayag district and neighbouring areas at around 3:11am having its epicentre at latitude 30.5 degree North and longitude 788 degree East with a focal depth of 10km.
Giving details, Bikram Singh, Meteorological Centre, told TOI, "The tremor was of slight intensity and it generally does not cause any damage to the property.
Moreover, people sometime don't even feel earthquake having magnitude below 4 on Richter Scale."
Meanwhile, no loss of life and property has been reported so far due to the low intensity earthquake which was felt for couple of seconds in Rudraprayag district."There was a slight tremor in Rudraprayag but we have not received information regarding any damage around the epicentre," said Piyoosh Rautela, executive director, Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre (DDMC).
Slight intensity quakes also jolted Pithoragarh and Uttarakashi districts in the month of August this year. Uttarkashi was hit by a 3.8 magnitude tremor while tremor of 2.7 magnitudes on Richter Scale had hit Pithoragarh district.
