Three Michelin-Star Menus To Try At The London Restaurant Festival

This article is more than 7 years old.

Travelling to London next month? Good timing, as the capital’s annual Restaurant Festival is taking place during the month of October. The bad news? Loads has already sold out, including the champagne gourmet odysseys, most of the tasting menus and the chef-hosted dinners with the likes of Angela Hartnett and Theo Randell. Thankfully, the festival menus are all still up for grabs, with amazing bargains at some of the capital’s most popular restaurants. That Michelin-starred restaurant you’ve been meaning to try? Now’s the time. Here are three of the best.

 Outlaws at the Capital

As well as having one of the coolest names on the planet, head chef Nathan Outlaw is also a dab hand at creating fantastic seafood dishes, which is the focus of this restaurant in the Capital Hotel. Outlaw runs another restaurant in Port Isaac and has transported his winning formula from Cornwall to Knightsbridge, where his menu offers hits such as crab Scotch egg with pickled fennel and curry sauce and John Dory with Port Isaac sauce and courgettes.

Four courses, tea or coffee and petits fours, £35

Launceston Place

Princess Diana used to stop by at this restaurant in South Kensington back in the 1980s – and it’s still going strong, now headed up by striking chef Raphael Francois, a transplant from Le Cirque in New York. The menu focuses on seasonal British produce and there’s an award-winning wine list to boot. A firm neighbourhood favourite with a supporting cast of foodie tourists.

Three courses and a glass of Veuve Clicquot, £35

Alyn Williams at The Westbury

This is not the most raucous restaurant in Mayfair, nor does it want to be. The focus here is on the food, and rightly so; Alyn himself is a transplant from Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley and he’s created a fantastic British menu here, including, among other things, a vegetarian tasting menu offering delicious treats like duck egg and chips with lemon crème fraiche and late season tomatoes, with black garlic and goats cheese pannacotta.

Five courses plus glass of bubbly, a box of chocolates and a kitchen tour, £65
