Chelsea could make bid for Tottenham defender Ben Davies - sources

Chelsea are weighing up a move for Tottenham defender Ben Davies in January, sources close to the Stamford Bridge club have told ESPN FC.

Davies, 23, is the second-choice left-back behind Danny Rose at Tottenham and has found it hard to hold down a regular place in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI.

He can play at left-back, or on the left side of a three-man defence, impressing in the latter role as Wales reached the semifinals of Euro 2016 and sources told ESPN FC that he had been a Chelsea target during the summer transfer window.

The Blues ended up signing David Luiz and Marcos Alonso on deadline day -- but that has not ended manager Antonio Conte's interest in Davies.

The Italian deployed a 3-5-2 formation while in charge of Juventus and Italy and is hoping to implement that system at Chelsea.

Davies' homegrown status makes him an attractive proposition to Chelsea, who want to boost the homegrown quota at Stamford Bridge. But Tottenham are reluctant to lose the player and are unlikely to welcome any interest from a rival such as Chelsea.
