KANGAR: The number of crime cases in Perlis between January to Sept 25 this year has declined, with a reduction of 15.2%, as compared to the corresponding period last year.
Perlis police chief SAC Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said last year 546 cases were reported, while this year, there was a drop to 463 cases, involving categories of crime such as snatch thefts, burglaries and motorcycle thefts.
He said, the drop in crime rate was due to support from Rakan Cop, the watchdog of the police.
"The effectiveness of the law enforcement agency greatly depends on the cooperation and support of the public. As such, through the Rakan Cop programme, it has helped to provide information on crime to the police," Ab Rashid said.
He said Perlis has currently more than 3,000 registered Rakan Cop members, in the effort to assist the police in eradicating crime in the state. — Bernama
