KOZHIKODE; To improve quality of education in schools, the central government will conduct student learning outcome assessment in various schools every year, Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said here on Sunday .
“We have a mission in our mind that is to improve the quality of education. Therefore, learning outcome becomes important. There are several assessment reports before us...
Now, the government will also conduct assessment every year of mathematical, language, reading and writing abilities of students in various schools,“ the minister said. He was delivering the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture at Vedavyasa Vidyalayam Senior Secondary School here.
The minister said in the learning outcome assessment, the government would assess every 3% of the students studying in zilla parishad and municipal schools and schools run by organisations like the Vidya Bharti and the church, besides private ones and those run by educational societies.
“We will assess every year 3% of students and give a correct picture of the quali ty of education being imparted in our primary schools,“ he said.
Javadekar said India has achieved expansion of education and now there is a need to improve the quality of education.
In this endeavour, he said, teachers will have to play a key role. “The ultimate objective of education is to bring about in us a good human being,“ he said.
Earlier, he presented prizes to the winners of all Kerala quiz 2016 conducted by Vedavyasa Vidyalayam Senior Secondary School.
Noting that the theme of the quiz was `Indian Culture', Javadekar said, “Our strength is that our culture is based on the rich ethos of unity in diversity.“
