Three days after four members of a family committing suicide by jumping into a canal, their bodies were cremated on Sunday after local SHO was transferred and ASI suspended for acting in a partisan manner.

Faridkot: Three days after four members of a family committing suicide by jumping into a canal, their bodies were cremated on Sunday after local SHO was transferred and ASI suspended for acting in a partisan manner. The state government also announced to give compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the sole surviving member of the family.
A Jagtar Singh, 50, and his neoighbour Lal Singh had a dispute over the common wall between their properties.
On Thursday, Jagtar; his wife Salwinder Kaur, 48; daughters Harbhajan Kaur, 19; and Parveen Kaur, 17, had jumped into a canal after leaving a suicide note accusing Lal and his four family members, Kala Mistry, Harjit Singh, Jarnail Singh, Balbir Singh, Jatinder Kumar and Satpal for forcing them to take the extreme step.
Police had registered abetment of suicide case against Lal, his family members and Mistry and arrested them. However, Harjit and Jarnail, who belong to Akali Dal, municipal council employee Jatinder Kumar and sanitary worker union leader Satpal were not named in the FIR. Deceased Jagtar' niece Mandeep Kaur said, "Police intentionally left out Akalis from the case".
The relatives of the suicide-stricken family had declined to cremate the bodies till action was initiated against policemen who failed to take any action even after Jagtar kept on calling the police on Wednesday evening.
On Sunday morning, Faridkot DC M S Jaggi, and SSP Darshan Singh Mann visited Jagtar's house in Society Nagar area of Faridkot. SAD's Avtar Singh Brar, Congress's Inderjit Singh Zeera and local AAP candidate Gurdit Singh Sekhon were already there. While the DC announced Rs 10 lakh grant from the state government for the family, SSP announced the suspension of IO in the case ASI Harphool Singh and transfer of city police station SHO Gurdeep Singh to police lines.
Earlier, on Saturday evening AAP MP Bhagwant Mann had visited the bereaved family and accused the police of protecting three persons having links with ruling SAD by not naming them in abetment of suicide case.
The role of SAD leader and district planning committee chairman Harjit Singh, block samiti member Jarnail Singh and Akali activist Balbir Singh, whose names figure in the suicide note, would be thoroughly investigated, said SSP Mann.
