BHOPAL: An inter-state arms dealer was arrested from Datia district in Madhya Pradesh and 26 pistols and kattas (locally made guns) were recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Gabbar Singh.
He was allegedly supplying arms to neighbouring Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh where elections to the assembly are due next year.
Gabbar, who was arrested on Saturday, belongs to the gang of Pramod Gupta who was arrested last year for running an arms factory in Datia.

Involvement of people from Aligarh and Jalaun districts of Uttar Pradesh is being investigated. Datia additional SP Jaiveer Singh Bhadoria said, "Five pistols of .32 bore with good finishing and 21 kattas, some of them made of brass, were recovered from Gabbar. Police action came after a tip-off received the same day."
When he was arrested, Gabbar was carrying a loaded pistol. Further scrutiny of his belongings unearthed the arms consignment, Bhadoria was carrying. He said police are interrogating some people from Aligarh and Jalaun, who seem to be involved in the arms dealing. Part of this consignment was also reportedly being sent to Jhansi. The inter-state arms smuggling angle is being probed, he said.
On June 30, the police had busted a small arms factory in a remote area of Datia. Pramod Gupta, who was operating the factory, was among others arrested in the case. Gupta is still in Datia jail. Gabbar belongs to Pramod's gang, ASP Datia told TOI.
